PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: Under the guidance of the Library Director, responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining library automation system and software. The position requires daily surveillance and as-needed updating of the integrated library system, other installed software, and is responsible for website content management. Serves as customer service representative, helps patrons with computer-related problems, and provides computer and software training to staff and patrons.

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY: Performs duties based on established policies and procedures. Errors in judgment could impact the Library’s resources and public acceptance of programs, protection of patron confidentiality, personnel, and facilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in an indoor office setting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This position will work with the library administration to plan for and execute future improvements in our library automated systems, to help the library to use its computer systems to the fullest capacity and to interface with the IT Department. Other duties include uploading bibliographic records, updating databases, and troubleshooting and maintaining the Meeting Room AV equipment, and developing and teaching a variety of instructional classes. Update, maintain, and back up integrated library system (ILS) and other operating systems. Manage website content and improve design and functionality of library website. Schedule and provide statistical reports on ILS, database usage, and other reports on a monthly basis or as needed. Troubleshoot and resolve computer problems. Assist staff in using applicable library software. Serve as a liaison with the City IT department. Train staff to answer common patron Internet questions.
Develop and teach classes to the public and library staff. Interface with library management team. Assist Library Director with assigned projects. Attend training to keep current on system updates.

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS: Requires 2-year degree in computer science or equivalent of experience.
Must have a combination of working knowledge and formal training in integrated library automation systems or comparable computer systems and ability to explain features of automated library catalog and circulation system. Must have experience in website content management; prefer experience with HTML and CSS. Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office including but not limited to Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Publisher or similar software. Prefer two years of customer service and problem solving related experience. Must have ability to work independently in a multi-tasking customer service setting. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have ability to communicate effectively and courteously with City employees, patrons and other community members. Ability to handle multiple activities or interruptions. Ability to work a schedule that includes weekdays and weekends, and daytime and evening hours. Must have the ability to work with numbers accurately and understand verbal and written instructions. Must have ability to cooperate with library staff as a team member. Must be bondable.
