The Collection Management Librarian plans and coordinates materials management operations. This position ensures that library collections are selected and purchased in a variety of formats that meet our users’ need for current, easy to find and accessible materials. S/he will develop and assess the library’s collections to reflect the needs of the community WCVPL serves. This will also include keeping abreast of new and emerging trends in collection development.
Additionally, the Collection Management Librarian will work with the director to allocate funding to the various categories of library materials, ensuring purchases remain within the goals set for the fiscal year. S/he will also work with the Technical Services Librarian (cataloging) to ensure library materials are assigned to the appropriate category.

- Purchases library materials which meet the library’s patron preferences. • Oversees collection development including selection and weeding. • Coordinates the management and renewal of all electronic subscriptions including the review of contract and licensing agreements. • Coordinates with director to meet yearly budget goals and oversee changes/updates to collection development policy. • Provide friendly and helpful customer service. • Provide back-up/assistance to co-workers as needed. • Participates in reference rotation and desk coverage as assigned/needed. • Participates in professional development activities. • Takes on other tasks/duties as determined by the director.
- ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS/MIS degree (or enrolled in an ALA-accredited program and working towards the degree). • Excellent interpersonal skills. • Basic computer skills and experience with computer software (Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook). • Excellent time management and organizational skills. • Excellent phone etiquette.
- 2-3 years’ experience, preferably in a public library with a focus on collection development. • Familiarity with library automation software. • Familiarity with mobile technology (smartphones, tablets, e-readers, laptops). • Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram). • Familiarity with cloud applications (Google Drive, Office 365, Evernote, Dropbox).
