The Dillon Public Library five-member Board of Trustees seeks an enthusiastic, visionary, community-minded leader as its next Library Director. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills, exhibit a clear vision and commitment to librarianship, articulate and advocate the Library’s strategic directions, provide sound fiscal management and promote collaborative relationships within the Library and city and county organizations and within the State of Montana library community. The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Library, public relations, collection development and management, reference, operation of the Montana State Library (“MSL”) Shared Catalog integrated library system, Library programs, and working closely with the Board. Dillon Public Library is located in Dillon, Montana (population 4,200)and serves all of Beaverhead County (population 9,200) which covers an area in Southwestern Montana of 5,500 square miles, demographically classed as “Frontier.” Dillon is the home of The University of Montana Western which provides a unique curriculum to a growing student population. The presence of the university contributes greatly to the cultural opportunities for the community. Beaverhead County is vast and offers a wide variety of outdoor recreational opportunities. All of this contributes to a low stress, family and retirement friendly environment. The Dillon Public Library is an historic structure, an original Carnegie library, and has a rich history with ties to some of America’s greatest literary contributors. For 115 years, this building has housed a library that is one of the foundational organizations within the community of Dillon. The Library’s mission is to provide the best possible services and materials for informational, educational, cultural and recreational use for the community we serve. Offering a full array of information services (collection of 47,000 print and online titles), Dillon Public Library is staffed with a full time Library Director, 1.7 FTE of permanent part time support positions, and numerous volunteers.
