LS&S is seeking a creative and dynamic Director for the Finney County Public Library in Garden City, Kansas. The 27,000-square-foot library is located in the heart of Garden City and serves approximately 40,000 residents, primarily employed in farming wheat or corn and other crops, as well as cattle ranching and processing. Patrons enjoy a vibrant collection of books, movies, audio books, genealogy and magazines along with access to reference databases and downloadable eBooks as well as a Nature Explore Classroom: http://www.natureexplore.org/certified/FinneyCountyPublicLibrary.com. Finney County (visitgck.com) is a multi-ethnic, family-friendly region offering its residents a rich history and several attractions. Some of those attractions include the Lee Richardson Zoo, several golf courses, The Big Pool, and annual events such as Beef Empire Days and the Tumbleweed Festival. It’s located approximately 200 miles west of Wichita and 300 miles southeast of Denver, Colorado, and is the second largest County in land area in Kansas. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of sound management decisions and the ability to exercise good judgment, along with the ability to communicate effectively and positively with various government and community groups. Ability to lead and inspire staff with creative new ideas for increasing library services while growing the use of and support for library services among the public and strategic partners is most important. Qualifications: MLS/ MLIS Required. Excellent oral and written communications abilities Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with proven ability to motivate and lead others Significant public library hands-on management experience Supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to make sound management decisions, exercising good judgment dealing with people and situations Ability to connect positively with library and community constituencies including the local governing authorities, community leaders and organizations, library staff, library patrons and the general public
