The Board of Trustees of Union County Libraries, El Dorado, Arkansas, seeks an enthusiastic, visionary, community-minded leader as its next full-time Library Director. The successful candidate will have good interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse staff and community. The Library has an annual budget of $635,000 which includes city and county millage, grants, and donations. It is a county-wide system of six public libraries in the largest county in the state, headquartered in El Dorado.
El Dorado, located in the middle of the state, just 17 miles from Louisiana, is home to the El Dorado Promise, which provides 4-year scholarships or a portion thereof, to students who graduate from El Dorado High School. A new Convention Center on the campus of South Arkansas Community College is on the edge of the new performing and visual arts district which is expected to enhance the already award-winning downtown. South Arkansas is also known for its low cost of living and opportunities for outdoor adventures in hunting, fishing, and biking. It is also optimally located with easy access to several metropolitan areas.
Responsibilities. The Director has overall responsibility for the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of Library operations and services including, but not limited to: budget, personnel, collection development, technical and automation services, facilities, and community relations.
Requirements. The ideal candidate must have an MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited institution, preferably with a public library emphasis. Previous experience in another comparative field will also be considered. Other preferred qualifications include construction and/or renovation experience, successful fundraising/grant writing skills, personnel management and experience working effectively with government and other public constituencies.
Compensation. Salary and compensation package is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
